2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon (optional but recommended)
Grease a 15x10x1- inch or a 13×9 inch baking pan and set aside.
Combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt and
In a medium saucepan combine butter, cocoa powder and 1 cup
of water.Bring mixture just to boiling, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat. Add the chocolate mixture to the dry
mixture and beat with a electric mixer on medium to high
till thoroughly combined. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.
Beat 1 min or less (batter will be thin)
Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Bake at 350 about 25 min. if you use the 15x10x1 inch pan
or 35 min if you use the 13×9 . All depends on your oven
check by inserting toothpick in the center. If it comes
out clean..It’s Done
Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting:
1/4 cup butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons buttermilk
2 1/4 cups sifted white powder sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cups chopped pecans (optional)
In a med saucepan combine butter, cocoa powder
and buttermilk. Bring just to a boil and remove
from heat. Add 2 1/4 cup sifted white powder sugar
and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
Use a good spatula to combine and blend in white
powder sugar. Important to sift the white powdered sugar.
I usually start the frosting about
10 min before the cake is done. Pour the warm
frosting over the warm cake.
